Fascinators are light-weight hats meant to be worn perched on top of the head. In this step-by-step workshop for beginners, students will learn how to build a one-of-a-kind fascinator on a buckram base, cover it with fabric, and shape various feathers and crinoline to trim the fascinator out.
Knowledge of basic hand sewing techniques.
What to Bring
First week students will learn how to block and wire buckram. The second week will cover their bases with fabric and how to attach either veiling or crinoline. The final week students will learn how to shape feathers into a feather flower. Students should come to the first class with an outfit in mind to create a fascinator for. The second week come prepared with the fabric to cover the base with and coordinating thread. Crinoline and veiling will be provided by the instructor. The final class feathers will be provided by the instructor but any additional trimmings should be brought by the student at this time. The class will end with lining the fascinators & attaching hair clips, combs or head elastic.
