Visiting Artist Workshop with Wendy Shalen: French Inspired Master Drawings
Ages: 18 - No Limit
Ability: Intermediate Advanced Professional
If you are a lover of French master drawings and Degas, join visiting artist Wendy Shalen, from the Art Students League of New York, in this French Inspired Drawing workshop. Work from the model and try European master drawing techniques monochromatically and then in limited color. On cream and toned paper in black and white charcoal and sanguine conte, Col-erase or pastel pencils, students will use the French technique -aux trois crayons. Inspired by Van Gogh's drawings, we will also work in line and tone in pen and ink with reed, metal and glass nibs, brown ink and wash. On the last of this workshop, we will visit and draw in the Degas exhibition at the Denver Art Museum.
"When I am working spontaneously with handmade paper pulp, drawing or painting from the landscape, a model or still life, I react intuitively, with care and sensitivity. I am seeking the air, light and vibrant color in a landscape, the living spirit of the model, the delicate textures and atmosphere in a still life. I look for magic and humor in my work, and I cherish the unexpected and accidental."- W. Shalen
