Ages 14–17 | Fundamentals of Figure Drawing for Teens, Part 1
Ages: 14 - 17
Students will learn basic figure drawing skills using a clothed model, with emphasis on the elements and principles of design such as composition, line, and value, positive and negative space. Weekly class exercises will teach students how to gesture draw and build the figure with simple geometric shapes. Different strategies will be used to measure and draw the figure and portrait in proportion. Experimentation with different media including charcoal, graphite and ink is encouraged throughout the course. Each class will feature group demonstrations followed by individual guidance from the instructor. Over the five-week period, students will build on the skills learned each week. Students are encouraged to attend the entire course of demonstrations, lectures, and studio practice sessions to gain a full repertoire of figure drawing skills.
