Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique, which originated with the Egyptians but more recently was popularized in Japan and Indonesia as a method of dyeing textiles. In this class you will learn how to adapt this ancient technique to watercolor on rice paper. Applying principles of watercolor painting already learned, each student will create work in the usual fashion, however wax used in a resist manner will be employed. Beginning watercolorists as well as advanced students are welcome. Each student needs to bring a simple sketch (up to 10 x 17") ready to transfer to rice paper at the start of class. Basic-Intermediate experience with watercolor is required.
